Powerpoint....

Since starting this blog and looking at ways everyone is incorporating technology in their classrooms, I'm starting to get really jealous! All of my professors are stuck on Powerpoint. Every single day, in every lecture, its the same exact thing, a Powerpoint presentation. They present to us using Powerpoint, and expect us to give our oral presentations using Powerpoint. This week I had to give 3 oral presentations, all three were group presentations using Powerpoint. I have suggested using a Prezi, or even Google Presentations, but every time I get the same response "that's too complicated" or "that wasn't the assignment". It's starting to get really frustrating. So, to anyone still reading this rant, as a student: PLEASE, NO MORE POWERPOINT!

  1. One more try, my pc just froze during my post.

This is one of the frustrations when trying to get busy teachers to implement new technologies in the classroom. So, it's up to you to get creative. Take one of the ppt/presentations and upload to SlideShare or Prezi and provide the link as an option. Once people start to see the alternatives they may be more willing to try. The role of the integration teacher is to guide and facilitate learning by coaching and modeling best practices. Prezi provides a presentation on why you should move beyond PowerPoint..

  2. I would have to agree Lauren. Powerpoint is on its way out and I am hoping that people see that sooner then later. I like Mary's idea to give the alternative, it is unfortunate that people have a problem changing, but keep up the motivation and creativity. I am sure they will follow soon.

  3. I offer my students lots of choices when it is time to do presentations, but I tell them if they do a powerpoint it cannot be *powerpointless*!! Discussion follows about what that means to all of us.
